Two years ago while my mother was over for a visit I dragged her to the cinema to see the live broadcast of musical Billy Elliot. I had never had the chance to see the show, growing up so far away from the bright lights of Broadway, but I had been listening to the soundtrack on and off since I had seen it scoop the Tony awards with 10 awards in 2008.

I loved the live broadcast and it reaffirmed my affection for this marvellous show. The cast and crew were amazing and they brought the music I loved so much to life in such a wonderful way. I felt that if I never saw the show live, it would be fine as at least I'd had the chance to see it, even if it was only on screen.

However last night, I got the chance to see the show at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre here in Dublin. All I can say is WOW! Seeing this show live was something all together different. Watching the young cast in person only served to reinforce their unbelievable talent. On the evening we attended, 12 year old Adam Abbou stepped into the star role of Billy and stunned the auditorium for nearly 3 hours with his engaging singing, breathtaking dancing and acrobatic tricks. His acting skills are already so developed and he is sure to go to an amazing career in the future.

Billy's best friend Michael, played by Samuel Torpey, stole raucous laughter every time he appeared on stage and is sure to grow into a fine comedian. Even at a young age his comedic timing was spot on and brought a pleasant reprieve the the seriousness of the overall show.

All in all the entire cast brings this show to new heights with the souring score by Elton John beating out behind them. Billy Elliot is in residence at the Bord Gais Theatre from now until early September and is well worth the trip. This is one show you don't want to miss. Be aware though while the show is carried by kids, it is certainly not for young theatre goes due to strong language and adult themes.

Tickets for Billy Elliot are now available at bordgaisenergytheatre.ie
